Muhammad Ali Handwritten Prompt Card Re: Mentor Elijah Muhammad & Race Relations, PSA Authenticated
Prompt card written by championship boxer and activist Muhammad Ali, measuring 8" x 5", n.p., undated. Inscribed in Ali's hand in black felt tip marker, with punctuation highlighted in blue sharpie. Reads in full: "the Hon Elijah Muhammad/ teaches us that this is/ against divine law, for either/ side to integrate in such/ a way, God made all/ of us as we are,". Slight wear along edges, with some ink smudging in places, not affecting text. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA to the overall size of 6.5" x 10" and certified as authentic. Very good condition.
While Ali is best remembered for his championship boxing career, he was also a man of many causes. Ali's conversion to Islam in the early 1960s informed his refusal to serve in the U.S. military following the mandatory Vietnam War draft. As a member of the Nation of Islam (NOI), then led by Elijah Muhammad, Ali found mentors in Malcolm X and Elijah himself, although he later converted to the more widespread Sunni Islam in the mid-1970s.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
