Description
Painting depicting a seventh-level civil officer, recognizable by the badge on his chest depicting a Mandarin duck, seated in a horseshoe-backed chair. Around his neck is the Chaozhu court necklace. The expertise in detail, observable in the tapestry, the carpet, the paintings depicting landscapes on either side of the figure, and the figure itself, is reminiscent of the style of Castiglione, a Jesuit missionary in China from 1715 to his death, occurred in 1766.
