RUSSIAN IMPERIAL SILVER SPOON, GUSTAV KLINGERT
Russian imperial silver and enamel spoon.
HALLMARKS: '84' for silver content and 'GK' for famous workmaster Gustav Klingert who used to worked for FABERGE - please see information below.
CONDITION: Very good for age. The item is described to the best of our knowledge. Please refer to pictures and email with any questions.
DIMENSIONS: 142 x 23 mm (4.5 inches). Weight: 17 grams.

HISTORY: Gustav Klingert originally from Germany, began his career working as a master for FABERGE. In 1865 he founded his own factory in Moscow employing over 200 artisans and manufactured items worth 400,000 rubles. In 1889 he exhibited at the Exposition Universally in Paris where his works were granted honorable mentions. Four years later at the World Fair in Chicago, Klingert was described as one of the most important firms in Russia. Thanks to the large popularity received the firm started to export its wares in United States through Tiffany and Co. In 1896 Gustav Klingert was granted the Imperial Warrant. After Gustav retirement, the business was carried on by his sons and grandsons until it was forced to close due to the outbreak of the Russian Revolution. The firm specialized in silver gilt, cloisonne and champleve enamel snuff boxes, cigarette cases and tableware. Until 1899 Klingert used to mark his items with Latin characters GK, thereafter in Cyrillic. Gustav Klingert who used to work for FABERGE owned a factory of gold and silverware which was founded in 1865 and known until 1916. His factory produced a lot of silver enamel items. He had 200 workers and 45 teenagers, manufacturing items worth 400,000 roubles. He was a participant in the exhibition in Paris (1889) and Chicago (1893) where his works were granted honourable mentions. He had 4 sons and grandsons who worked together with him, one of the sons from 1915 to 1917 was a book-keeper of the Moscow branch of the FABERGE. Gustav Klingert was a famous representitive of German ancestry in Moscow. Initials on the hallmark: GK, KLINGERT.
