Description
Taino Pre-Columbian Bird Spoon. Ceremonial two headed spoon. The head facing the viewer is a bird. The one at top of head is zoomorphic. The back of the spoon has two interlocking bird heads that often represents a shamans hallucinogenic transformation to a bird enabling him to navigate the spiritual cosmos. Pierced at back of neck to be worn at ritual functions probably to distribute cohoba. Marble. Ex Carrada collection, Miami. Taino culture c.1000-1500 AD.
