Silk Jacket And Pants Embroidered With Forbidden Blind Stitch, China, Qing Dynasty (mid-late 19th C.). Silk with fine embroidery known as the blink stitch or forbidden stitch because it was considered so fine and intricate that it was believed the craftswomen would go blind from the process. It is also believed to be called forbidden stitch because it was to be done only by embroiderers in the Forbidden palace and no one but the dynasty should have access to it. Size: Shirt: 3'0'' x 4'6'' (91 x 137 cm); Pants: 3'3'' x 1'9'' (99 x 53 cm).
