Description
Aksu Heirloom Wedding Dress, 19th C. Or Earlier. A fine, heirloom woman’s matrimonial dress from the market center at Bolivar. Woven in the large style common to when such garments were worn as full dresses not skirts, the replaceable and subordinate top half is a 19th century replacement of an earlier version witnessed by the ribete edge cutting and change of color and fineness and also by the panel join done in the 19th century invisible saddle stitch style. Beautiful and traditional color format with a complex double cloth center design stripe. Good condition. Collected by Jonathan Hill in La Paz in 1975. Size: 4'8'' x 3'9'' (142 x 114 cm).
