Edward Burne-Jones was a British artist and key figure in the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Similar to his peers Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Morris, Burne-Jones depicted religious, mythological, and medieval themes in a style based in High Renaissance painting. The movement hoped to bring about a larger aesthetic shift in where the bright colors, detail, and well-planned compositions of Quattrocento artists like Raphael and Michelangelo were reinstated as paragons. “The more materialistic science becomes, the more angels shall I paint,” he stated. “Their wings are my protest in favor of the immortality of the soul.” Born on August 28, 1833 in Birmingham, United Kingdom, the artist studied at the Birmingham School of Art before pursuing a theology degree at Exeter College in Oxford. Beginning around 1862, working with Morris he began producing stained glass windows as well as tapestries and rugs. They are both credited for helping to bring about a resurgence of craft-based artwork to England during the late 19th century. The artist’s career was dotted with honors, including the Presidency of the Birmingham Society of Artists and the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Burne-Jones died on June 17, 1898 in London, United Kingdom. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Muse d’Orsay in Paris, and the Tate Gallery in London.

The term In Style of used in title and description means that artworks are similar to the artist’s style. After means the artwork is a copy of an existing work. For both kinds of arts, we do not guarantee and do not suggest any authenticity and originality of it.
