AN INLAID IRON SLENDER VASE
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
The body decorated in high relief of shell, shakudo, bronze, and gilt with a continuous design of different auspicious objects including the tasselled cloak and hat of invisibility, a tsuchi (Daikoku's magic mallet), a makimono (handscroll), a takarakagi (storehouse key), and tama (jewels) scattered over the surface; unsigned; with a wood storage box inscribed Tetsu sei kabin (Iron flower vase). 20.3cm (8in) high.
