Description
DESCRIPTION: Jacobus Stainer violin. Circa 19th century. Marked "Stainer," on the back of the body and with a label interior marked "Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oenipontum 17" (Jacobus Stainer from Absam Near Innsbruck). With a two part back. Jacob Stainer was an important luthier from Austria in the early to mid 1600s. His work is considered one of the earliest and most influential and was reproduced as in this example by various violin makers to honor his style before the Stradivarius style was adopted. In a hard case. MEASUREMENTS: 23-1/2" long. CONDITION: Wear consistent with age. With detached bridge and with strings and pegs for tailpiece that need to be replaced. Case in poor condition with loss to the top.
