Description
Gay Patterson (American, 1948-2019). "Snow Laden" oil on canvas mounted on masonite board, ca. 1980. Hand signed on lower right. A large oil painting depicting the snow-covered branches of a mature evergreen tree by Santa Fe artist Gay Patterson. The piece is fittingly entitled "Snow Laden," comes from the impressive Kendrick Collection, and is set in an attractive custom frame. The mesmerizing composition really draws in the viewer, capturing the breathtaking beauty of the evergreen boughs blanketed in white, as they work their magic and turn what would otherwise be a barren landscape into a wondrous winter wonderland. Size: 34" L x 47.8" W (86.4 cm x 121.4 cm) Size of frame: 35" L x 48.8" W (88.9 cm x 124 cm)
Gay Patterson passed away on June 12, 2019 from complications related to a squamous cell carcinoma. Her artist's statement provides precious insight to her work. The following is a poignant excerpt: "Over decades, I seem to have embedded notions of ephemerality, motion and the constant of change in my work. I’m not sure if I’m trying to understand mutability, nail it down or accept it, but it is a primal state of life, and so very beautiful. What you see, feel and think depends on just how you approach everything, including art. In looking at a painting, no part exists in isolation but alters in relationship to what it is next to, where it is viewed from, what the quality of light is and every experience you bring along."
Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection; ex-Kendrick collection, acquired 1970 to 1995
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
