AN EIGHT IMMORTALS RELIEF CARVED SNUFF BOTTLE
Chinese, 19th century, stained. Buddha stopper on lotus throne crowns the spherical 'Pilgrim-bottle' shape, carved in deep relief of the Eight (8) Xian under lingzhi form clouds and flowing waves. From right to left: He Xiangu sits with her hair in up-do as she guides the oar of a raft, Zhongli Quan holds a fan in his right hand, Lu Donbin seated with sword in sheath to his back and hands in mudra at the head of the raft, Lan Caihe stand on a lily pad holding a basket of fruit, Cao Guojiu seated with brush and paiban, Han Xiangzhi standing on lily pad with flute in hands, Zhang Guolao seated with fish drum, and Li Tieguai seated with crutch and Calabash bottle.
