AN UNDERGLAZE ENAMEL NOTATED SNUFF BOTTLE
Chinese, mid-19th century, porcelain. The straight-walled cylindrical bottle having a flat and everted lip, sloping shoulders of rouge blossoms above an underglaze blue circumference painting of a single scholar on a raft as two other scholars look on from a nearby courtyard entrance. The underside having an apocryphal Qianlong mark but the bottle with an old label suggesting the maker is actually Daoguang era; a fine lapis lazuli stopper, metal collar and spoon.
