Description
1716 Palladio Architecture First Book of Five Orders Illustrated Art Vignola
Andrea Palladio was a 16th-century Italian architect who was influenced strongly by the Greek and Roman architectures of Vitruvius. Palladio, alongside Vignola, is widely considered one of the most important figures in, not only Italian architecture, but in the history of architecture.
While mostly known for his designs of Venetian buildings, he also wrote a treatise which set forth his rules for architecture. This work discusses classical styles, decorative designs, and proper materials, adapting Vignolas Five Orders of Architecture and included new door designs.
His most famous work The Four Books of Architecture covers building materials and various construction techniques based on the five classical orders established by Vignola. Each of these is covered in this 1716 London printing of the first book.
