Description

A PAIR OF ART NOUVEAU 'MARCH GIRL' CAST IRON BOOKENDS OR DOORSTOPS (CIRCA 1925) FROM THE ACORN COMPANY

Each of these two heavy decorative objects (bookends or doorstops) features a pierced figurative design, rendered in cast iron, of a woman in a windblown dress, standing in profile next to a fence under an archway, with the leash of her Scottie dog wrapped around her legs. At her feet, her dog faces an agitated cat. The Acorn Company is known for its high quality casting in bronze or cast iron. These are cast iron with felt pads in great condition. The company is known by an engraved acorn on each bookend, accompanied by an item number and the title of the pieces. These are inscribed with No. 601 'MARCH GIRL' (see photos).
