Description
Possibly French, 7th - 8th century. Flat gold disc brooch or fibula decorated with filigree work and bezel set with nine colored stones and paste of various sizes and shapes. The gold disc (x-ray metal tested 22K with 19-21K trim), backed by a bronze plate with partial fibula fitting. Gold plate separated from bronze back, fine twisted wire trim and gold border also loose. Disc measures approx. 2.25" diameter, 26gr. without bronze back.
