A significantly rare first edition of The American Biography. This work is a collection of short biographical sketches of major historical figures from the Revolutionary War. Authorship for this work is attributed to Amos Blanchard, editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer, by the Library of Congress. Specifically, this work is an overhaul of Blanchards previous 1825 work, American Military Biography. Considered a separate work despite having similar contents, the changes between the two works were so significant that a title change was necessary. These changes were made so that Blanchard could include and describe the pivotal role of numerous statesmen during the American Revolution.



Included within is an overview, from an American perspective, of the primary causes that led to the American Revolution as well as longer biographies of Benedict Arnold and Major Andre.
