Description
The nice, honest example of a truly utilitarian basketry water bottle having integral horsehair ties woven in the basketry retaining make-do leather strap remnants salvaged from an old belt and secured with native tanned ties. A canvas covering secured by pine pitch remains on the base, the interior is so thoroughly sealed with pitch that this basket weighs 4 pounds and 3 ounces compared to the much larger 17-inch Apache olla in this auction which weighs 2 pounds and 9 ounces. Again, this is an authentic example with very good polish and warm, mellow patina.
