Wekeo Ito (1885-1984) was born in Aichi, Japan. Since he had gone to China in 1920, he worked the branches of Yokohama Special Bank Ltd of Japan in Beijing, Dalian and Yantai, etc successively. Yokohama Special Bank Ltd, found in 1879, enjoyed preferential policies of the government, so its overseas business was greatly expanded of thirty-four branches in succession in China from 1893 to 1945. During his time in China, he was attached to collection Chinese art and had business with some antique shops such as Bin's Glassworks, Xuanhe Studio, Jiangu Studio and Wanyicheng. As a result, he was one of the powerflu foreign buyers at that time. He is also quite familiar with the art and literary circles in Beijing. In particular, he got well with Qi Baishi, who gave his paitings as gifts many times and helped him manage his shops, managements, deposites and even family affairs.
