Arthur Ashe (1943-1993) Tennis champion. Ashe won three Grand Slam titles. He is he only black male to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, or Australian Open, He is also remembered for his efforts to further social causes. For twelve years, Ashe was ranked among the world's top ten tennis players. He was ranked number one in both 1968 and 1975. His landmark work, A Hard Road to Glory, three-volume set, each volume is signed. These books present the saga of African-American athletes, from their seventeenth-century ancestral homelands to the present. Volume I 1619-1918, Warner Books, 1988, signed on the half-title page and dated “3/12/89,” volume II 1919-1945, Warner Books, signed on the half-title page and dated “3/12/89” and volume III Since 1946, Warner Books, 1988, first edition, signed oin the half-title page, “To John Ballard Arthur Ashe 3/12/89.” Dust jackets are unblemished and protected, books overall very good.
