Description
A PAIR OF STEUBEN CRYSTAL CORNUCOPIA VASES, DESIGNER FREDERIC CARDER, NO. 7579, 20TH CENTURY, each of traditional form and raised on a circular domed flairing base, verso engraved "Steuben." Height: 6" Note: Frederic Carder (English 1863-1963) a truly talented designer who managed Steuben from its beginning in 1903 until 1932. During his tenure he utilized his knowledge of chemistry and industry learned during night school in his youth, as well as the design experience at the English glass making factory of Stevens and Williams, combined with Steuben's freedom from restrictions allowed him to create a variety of new colors and techiques in glass production. Steuben's new president in 1932 shifted the company to transparent colorless glass ending Carder's near 30 year reign but his career did not end there. Corning Glass Works hired him as their Design Director and he went on to design and make glass until 1959 when he retired at the age of 96.
