Description
Two 1970s round chunky wool knit hats with thick white leather banding. Each are lined with silk and are labeled.
One hat has cream colored knit with cream colored silk lining. The other hat is steel gray colored with a purple-gray silk lining. Elastic chin strap attached.
Appointed to the house of Dior in 1957 on behalf of his exceptional illustrations, Algerian-born designer Yves Saint Laurent found his groove upon the establishment of his own label five years later. As the first French couturier to present a pret-a-porter collection, Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche formulated the effortless, irresistible, nonchalant sexuality of the modern woman. It is the mastermind of Yves Saint Laurent that fashioned the blazer, the trench coat, and the women's trouser; loosening silhouettes with sheer fabrics, trapeze cuts, and streamlined fluidity. Helmut Lang's image of Biana Jagger wearing "Le Smoking" suit from YSL's 1966 collection upended the binary of gendered dress, imbuing the rigidity of men's tailoring into womenswear and laying the groundwork for androgyny. Contributing undeniably to the birth of artwear, Saint Laurent often factored the works of Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, and Henri Matisse into his garments. In the wake of Saint Laurent's death, the atelier passed through the adept hands of Tom Ford, Hedi Slimane, and most recently has been helmed by Anthony Vacarello.
