Description
EDGEFIELD DISTRICT, SOUTH CAROLINA STONEWARE JAR, light olive alkaline-glazed with excellent runs, approximately four-gallon capacity, finely potted bold ovoid form with short neck and thin, rounded-top, tie-off rim, applied narrow arched handles with trimmed terminals. Probably by Thomas Chander (1810-1854), Trapp and Chandler Pottery, Kirkseyâ€â„¢s Crossroads, near Edgefield, SC. Circa 1845. 14 1/2" H, 7 1/4" D rim.

Remarkable undamaged condition except for a very minor rough spot to underside of rim, no wear to glaze.
