Zhang Boju (1898-1982), native Veronon, nicknamed Cong Bi, alias Youchun master, Hao from Xiangcheng, Henan Province, born in 1898 in an official eunuch family, son of Zhang Jinfang, Yuan ShiKai’s cousin, and successor to his uncle Zhang Zhenfang. He has been obsessed with ancient cultural relics all his life and devoted to collection calligraphy and painting monuments. He has bought the most ancient ink handed down from China, “Ping Fu Tie” by Lu Ji in the Western Jin Dynasty, the most ancient paintings handed down from generation to generation Zhan Ziqian’s “Spring Tour”, “On the Balcony Post” by Li Bai, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, and Song Huang Tingjian’s “Upper Seat Post”, Zhao Ji’s “Xuejiang Return Scroll”, Yuan QianSelection Mountain Residence Scroll and so on are important cultural relics that occupy a unique position in the history of art. As many as 118 of the top Chinese calligraphy and painting monuments in China’s dynasties can be found in his book Congbi Calligraphy and Painting Record, which is known as the “first collection in the world”. This special collection includes Shen Quan, Leng Mei, Zheng Banqiao, BaDaShan people, Jiang Tingxi, Wang Meng, Zou Yigui, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, etc. Among them, Zhang Boju and Zhang Daqian met in the early 1930s and became friends because of their common collection hobbies.
