An antique 18th to 19th century Chinese export fan. Hand painted on paper with fantasy scene of ships delivering a cargo of love. Decorated with sailing ships castles, volcanic islands, and other allegorical perils along the journey. Verso with spring floral basket against a gold gilt background. Titled in Portuguese language, "Viagens do Amor" ("Travels of Love"). Finely pierced and carved filigree frame with Chinese court motif handle. Gilt embellishments. Presented in a custom fitted lucite shadowbox frame.
