Description
High quality 19th century suit of armor from a prominent New York Estate. Most probably of English manufacture, the armor is fully embossed with heraldic scenes, measures a full 6' tall, and is mounted on a wood pedestal that measures 24" wide, 24" deep, 20" tall. Comes with a period correct wood shaft spike tipped pole arm. A old paper label on the wood mount under the helmet states, "Contained in the Private Residence of the Late James V. Parker 253 Madison Ave. N.Y. James Vanderburgh Parker (December 15, 1830 – January 11, 1917) was an American heir and social leader who was prominent in New York society during the Gilded Age. Parker, a "fashionable bachelor of Mrs. Astor's entourage", who never married, inherited a large fortune which enabled him to be a lifelong man of leisure. In 1892, Parker was included in Ward McAllister's "Four Hundred", purported to be an index of New York's best families, published in The New York Times.
