Description
By Kogyoku, Nagoya, Mid 19th century. The mouth open with teeth clenched and the pupils cut entirely through, nicely stained. Inscribed on the crossbar, Kogyoku. While the signature uses the same characters as the well-known follower of Bazan, may be a different artist as this work appears to be a little later and the Getsu character is formed using both horizontal strokes whereas most examples show the D1180 carver using only a single horizontal stroke. 1 7/8in (4.7cm). Provenance: Purchased from R. Koscherak, 1954.
