Description
18th century, Bethabara or Old Salem, North Carolina, likely by Moravian Potter Godfrey Aust. The vessel has a heavy red clay body with ovoid form and green led glazed upper body with incised decorated oak leaves surrounding the upper shoulder. The piece is in good overall condition with no restoration. H12" Sold from the collection of Betty & Ralph Jennings of Gaffney, South Carolina. Mrs. Jennings notes indicate the vessel was examined by Dr. Gharles G. Zug III. Also noted to see Ackland Art Museum of Chapel Hill, North Carolina pages 17, 19, 21, 22 Catalog #10 with oak leaf decoration.
