DESCRIPTION: Tabard Inn library revolving bookcase. Oak. American, circa 1900. Seymour Easton (1859-1916) started The Tabard Inn Library with stations of revolving bookcases situated in drug stores and other merchants throughout the United States. Members of the library could rent books for five cents each. In architectural form, a tiled roof surmounts four sides of compartments including open shelves for books. The case rests upon a three legged center pinion, allowing the bookcase to rotate. MEASUREMENTS: 27" wide x 75" high. CONDITION: Very good; areas of minor surface wear. MH.
