Description
33 Early 20th C. Oak Wood Folding Chairs Engraved by Dowd Fowler. The first of 3 lots of wooden folding chairs in slightly different styles. Branded on many seat backs with the Dowd logo, a company once based in Fowlerville, Michigan and moved to Pennsylvania some time after the 1940s. Some sides are also branded with a 'D'. The Dowd design featured the unusual style of lifting the rear of the seat to fold up the chair, which also gives the seat bottom an interesting shape and allows them to neatly stack flat. Durable and sturdy oak will last many more years—great for heavy use at special events.
