Group of Six Covered Boxes,
probably Massachusetts, 19th century.
Lidded oval band boxes with lapped finger joints, fastened with copper tacks and square wooden pegs, five have painted exteriors in red, green, blue, and brown; the one unpainted box has figured maple walls and the lid is impressed 'SPRAGUE'; one with smoky effects on buff ground is incised 'WAE' across the top , (cracks, paint loss), 12cm wide, 10cm deep, 5cm in diameter, (5 3/4in wide, 4 1/8in deep, (2 1/8in in diameter,
