H. Shimidzu (Japanese 20th century) Two paintings on silk of American ships off the coast of Yokohama, circa 1935. S.S. 'Golden Peak' and S.S. 'Steelworker' 17 1/2in. x 10 1/2in. (44cm. x 26cm) Framed: 18 1/2in. x 11 1/2in. (47cm. x 29cm) Signed l/r. Signature folded under framing. One of the best known Maritime painters from this period was H. Shimidzu, painting from his studio in Yokohama, Japan. He was a popular ship portraitist, his works show a high degree of skill in accurately depicting both sail and steam vessels.
