Item Details
Description
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An attractive pair of silver fibulae or brooches used to fasten the cloak of a Roman soldier or citizen, each boasting attractive decoration. The larger presents marvelous details with onion-dome shaped termini as well as the concentric circles and stylized ridged motifs adorning the body. By contrast, the other fibula displays a minimalist yet elegant form with a gracefully sloping tiller and a spiraling bow string. Brooches of this style were in vogue in the late Roman Empire, especially amongst elites. Given their attractive design, these fibulae would have served as impressive decorative ornaments by which one could flaunt their elevated social status. Stunning examples of the Roman Empire's luxury arts! Size of larger: 2.4" L x 1.7" W (6.1 cm x 4.3 cm); silver quality: 92.5 to 96%; total weight: 30.9 grams
