Description
**First Time At Auction**

Bonnie Halsey-Dutton (American, Contemporary). "Tale of Conflict" oil on panel, 2010. Signed and dated at bottom right. A striking painting presenting an image of two figures on horseback - a U.S. Calvary soldier pursued by a Native American warrior - on the interior of a Plains Indian tipi by Bonnie Halsey-Dutton. All is delineated in Halsey-Dutton's visually poetic style and vibrant color palette. According to the artist, "This image focuses in on the individual conflict between two warriors. It is presented as a narrative history told while looking up from inside a Plains Indian tipi." A fascinating painting, replete with layers of historical and symbolic meaning, set in an attractive custom frame comprised of burled wood with a wonderful geometric motif adorning the inner molding. Size (painting): 10" L x 8" W (25.4 cm x 20.3 cm) Size (frame): 15.1" L x 13.1" W (38.4 cm x 33.3 cm)

Bonnie Halsey-Dutton was born and raised in South Dakota and is inspired by the local cultures where she resides as well as their history. Providing further context for this piece she writes, "The imagery is of a U.S. Calvary soldier being pursued by a Native American warrior, both on horseback, and is inspired by the Ewers Ledger. The original artist of the ledger was a Northern Cheyenne, incarcerated in a fort in Montana, circa 1870-1880. The Ewers Ledger is named after the Calvary officer whose descendants inherited it."

Dr. Halsey-Dutton is both a professional visual artist and a fine arts educator, holding a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona. She exhibits her artwork both nationally and internationally, and also teaches art education workshops at home and abroad.
