RUSSIAN ICON GROUP CIRCA 1680- 1880. Comprising a good group of seven personal devotional type icons, including three relief carved wood examples of the type and size often acquired by pilgrims at the monastery which displayed the miracle-working icon depicted in the carved example. From left to right these include an image of the Chernigov- Gethsemane Mother of God height 4.5 inches (11.5cm), at center an image of the Pecherskaya Mother of God height 5 inches (12.5cm), and at far right an image of Saint Barbara, height 3.75 inches (9.5cm), as well as a pair of icons contained in matching gilt oval frames, both finely painted in the miniature technique and both with lengthy inscriptions above their head, on the left the Holy Nicholas the Wonder-Worker and on the right Mitrophan Bishop of Voronezh, height of each (including frame) 3.25 inches (8cm), and between them a finely cast bronze baptismal cross, the verso with lengthy prayer and the front with an orthodox crucifix flanked by a spear and reed, the finial with suspension hole, height 2.25 inches (5.5cm). And below at center a 17th century cast copper pendant form icon of The Descent into Hades, the pierced finial displaying The Holy Visage, height 2.5 inches (6.5cm).
