Maximilian I: Scarce Manuscript Letter Signed, Palacio de Mexico Feb. 5, 1866, Austrian Archduke and Only Emperor of the 2nd Mexican Empire. Maximilian I (1832-1967) Was an Austrian archduke who reigned as the only Emperor of the Second Mexican Empire from 10 April 1864 until his execution on 19 June 1867. A turbulent two years in Mexico that is fascinating history. With such a short reign, documents/letters signed are scarce. Letter addressed to a Minister Cartillo and reads:
The Minister of State has informed us that it is not up to the Finance Commission in Paris to issue the payment orders so that the French claims can be paid, and that it is in the interest of the minister in our charge. If so, you will dictate our provisions so that said orders are issued later, since an important political consideration requires that there be no delay in the execution of this measure. Beautifully signed by Maximilian in his exquisite penmanship letter is in excellent condition 10½ x 8¼" on fine paper bordered in black. Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500
