Collection of Very Early 20th Century Tobacco Silks Including 6 Prized Collegiate Silks, Doll House Rugs, and Larger World and US Flags 40+. In between 1905 and 1910 that tobacco companies here in America, began inserting textile items into their cigarette and tobacco products and they proved very popular. These were usually collected by women from their spouses and very often sewn into colorful blankets and quilts. But the onset of WWI halted the practice likely due to war effort supply issues. Two sizes were produced, 4 x 6½ with fringed trim and larger flannel textiles 5½ x 8½".
The most prized are the 4 x 6½" state collegiate silks. Included are Yale, Columbia, Brown, Texas, California, and Pennsylvania. Eight doll house rugs also 4 x 6½" indifferent patterns and colors. Of the 5½ x 8½" flannel textiles, 10 world flags, 9 Native American designs and 11 US flags. All in excellent, well archived condition. Estimated Value $100 - 300
