Description
Two (2) Pre-Colombian Mayan, Polychrome Terracotta Bowls: Impressive Orange & Black Painted, Ceremonial Tripod Bowl & Small Pot. Two (2) Pre-Columbian Mayan Lowlands, terracotta bowls of polychrome slip colors of orange, red and black
1) Painted and incised ceremonial tripod bowl, Mayan Lowlands with painted panels and zoomorphic symbols highlighted by incisions throughout surrounding the sides and continuing underneath the bowl between each of the three legs. The bowl was unearthed in fragments but now virtually intact after professional restoration decades ago. Restorer opted not to fill in cracks as commonly done on ancient Greek and Roman pottery. 2.) Nicely paired with a terrific small pot with rounded bottom decorated in casual geometric designs in red and black colors. Pot is near fine with only very minor chips to neck. 4 x 3½ x 3½. Estimated Value $200 - 500
Private SOCAL Collection: Acquired 30 Years Ago From the Estate of Ralph Steffans, Von Strauss Fine Art Authentication Included.
