TLS on "The Pennsylvania State University" letterhead with good content in full; "Dear Mr. Wiggins: Here is a photograph in which I am pointing at some individual atoms of a platinum-cobalt alloy micrograph made with my field ion microscope." Signed in blue ink by Erwin W. Mueller. Dated May 6, 1971.(1911-1977) Erwin Wilhelm Müller (or Mueller) was a German physicist who invented the Field Emission Electron Microscope (FEEM), the Field Ion Microscope (FIM), and the Atom-Probe Field Ion Microscope. He and his student, Kanwar Bahadur, were the first people to experimentally observe atoms.This lot came from the Jim Wiggins collection we purchased in July 2022. Jim Wiggins accumulated the most unique and valuable autograph collection over a period of 70 plus years. He obtained his collection either in person or by writing to person of fame and notoriety.
