PLEASE NOTE: Lots that do not have an established documented provenance or prior auction record are described in this catalog as "In the style of".

1. When you list an artwork "by" a master artist that is not a copy of a known work, it should be listed as "in style" by that artist. It should be described as "in the style of" in both the title and description. It should include a clear definition of "in the style of." A suggested definition: Works "in the style of" are works by an unknown creator whose style is heavily influenced by the style of the named master artist. III.
Charles Wilbert White (April 2, 1918 – October 3, 1979) was an American artist known for his WPA-era murals. White's best-known work is The Contribution of the Negro to American Democracy, a mural at Hampton University. Charles Wilbert White was born on April 2, 1918, the son of Ethelene Gary, a domestic worker, and Charles White Sr, a construction and railroad worker, on Chicago's South Side. Due to his poverty, his parents couldn't afford a babysitter while they were working, so his mother left him in the library. This caused a young Charles to develop an affinity for art and reading at a young age. White's mother bought him an oil paint set when White was seven years old, which got White hooked on art and painting. White also played music as a child, studied modern dance, and was part of theater groups; However, I have said that art was his true passion.
