Andre Kertesz (1894-1985) was a Hungarian-born photographer known for his groundbreaking contributions to photographic composition and the photo essay. In the early years of his career, his then-unorthodox camera angles and style prevented his work from gaining wider recognition. Today he is considered one of the seminal figures of photojournalism. In 1984 the Metropolitan Museum of Art purchased 100 prints by Andre Kertesz, its largest acquisition from a living artist. And in 1986 he was inducted into the International Photograph Hall of Fame and Museum. Kertesz has exhibited in several museum exhibitions and his work can be found in countless private and public collections.
