For your consideration is a romantic and whimsical papier mache sculpture titled "Date Night in the Tropics" by Michigan artist Stephen Hansen. Signed on the bottom right and dated 1979. The composition features a couple in a cozy red booth surrounded by lush palm trees. The dapper man looks out in the distance while the blonde is turned around gazing at the picturesque night sky. Yet, what is most unusual is the tiny violinist on the table. Hansen is known for always adding an element of comedy and humor to his sculptures. From a private collection. Dimensions: 30"h x 31"w x 13.5"d. In very good vintage condition. A Seattle native, Stephen Hansen moved to New Mexico in 1984, and has been working as a professional artist since 1968. He retired in Northern Michgan. In addition to paper mache, he works in resin, hydrocal, wood, bronze, steel and stone. Hansen has had one-man shows in commercial galleries and art museums in Detroit, Chicago, Santa Fe, Washington, Philadelphia, and New York. His meticulous paper mache creations are known all over the world and are included in museum, corporate, private, and government collections including the New Mexico Capitol Art Collection in Santa Fe, the, The Federal Reserve and Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and United States Embassies in Naples, Italy and Caracas, Venezuela.
