11.28.22--In my opinion regarding LOT 1610- Under UV examination, both paintings appear with heavy varnish overall, except around the faces, I am unsure if only the faces were cleaned or if the varnish was later, I have taken numerous images for your review, I did see some evidence of varnish on both frames
Female: The canvas is taught, likely relined, a UV examination reveals heavy, in painting scattered throughout, and craquelure, the frame shows some gilt loss and chipping to decoration
Male: The canvas is taught, likely relined, there mark, sweeping across the males left side of head and hair as pictured, I further observe some craquelure, and small areas of paint loss in the upper left quadrant, a UV examination reveals heavy varnish, and possible repairs as pictured, I further note some inpainting, the frame shows some small areas of loss and wear to paint
