Description
A DAVID O. SELZNICK STATE OF GEORGIA CITATION CERTIFICATE, 1961
A Citation from the State of Georgia, signed 'S. Ernest Vandiver', Governor of Georgia, on the Centennial of the Civil War, honoring producer David O. Selznick for his accomplishments in the years between 1939 and 1961 in which his production of Gone with the Wind continued to entertain others and depict the state of Georgia in an honorable fashion, stamped with the Governor's gold seal.
framed 21 1/4 x 15 1/4 in.
Footnotes:
Provenance
The Collection of Dr. Christopher Sullivan
The 1961 Civil War Centennial in Atlanta honored those who had served, and the festivities included a showing of Gone with the Wind and a costume ball at the Biltmore Hotel in March. The death of Clark Gable in November 1960 cast a pall over the events, but it was still attended by Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Selznick, and others. William B. Hartsfield, amazingly enough, was still the mayor of Atlanta, as he had been in 1939.
