A Greek terracotta seated lady of fashion
Hellenistic, circa 3rd Century B.C.
The young woman enveloped in a himation, her feet emerging from beneath, seated on a cushioned stool, her centrally parted hair drawn off her face into a circular plait at the back, tresses falling onto her shoulders, 16.6cm high

Dr. Hans Stenzl (1880 Munich, Germany - 1980 Riehen, Switzerland), acquired in 1955.
Dr Stenzl was a research chemist at F. Hoffmann-La Roche & Cie. AG and J.R. Geigy AG; he was the inventor of important pain-relieving and anti-rheumatic medications.
He formed his collection of antiquities between 1953-1968.
Private collection, London, inherited by the present owner in 1980.

Condition
The figure has been glued to the rectangular base. The base has been broken in three parts and repaired. The fabric colour and surface of the figure and the base are matching and seem to belong. The base strut at the back of the stool has been broken and repaired. There is a small chip to the tip of the nose. The features, hair and drapery are generally well preserved.
There is overall surface wear including, pitting, chipping and scratching.
