Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Post Classic period, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. An intriguing plumbate figural vessel with a round, bulbous body with low relief face and knobs around the body, and incised linear patterns, covered in a lustrous plumbate glaze. The Maya produced a pottery with a hard and shiny surface known as plumbate ware which was probably made by a very small number of artisans around the Mexico/Guatemala border who then exported them throughout wider Mesoamerica. Size: 7" Diameter x 5.5" H (17.8 cm x 14 cm)

Repaired and restored. Restoration with new material to rim and boy. Infill and overpainted, and nearly indiscernible. Stable hairline fissure on rim. Abrasions and chips to high pointed areas on exterior.
