Antique Bristol Purple Clambroth Glass Hand Painted Enamel Footed Vase Pair

Item Details

Description

Ca. mid 19thC. English probably. The glass remains fine with no chips, cracks or repairs. The gilt gold wash decoration exhibits rubs as shown on both bases and rim tops. The enamel flower's colors remain bright, fresh and complete, mainly due to the unusually thick enamel paint originally used. Thicker than any Bristol glass I have ever seen. From our pictures its hard to spot the two cherub portraits rendered in gray/black against white enamel squares. This pair also utilized thicker, heavier glass than most. At 15" tall, this pair is definitely exhibition quality.
