Includes three semesters of attendance records for 95 named students (aged 22 to 74), from March to December 1937.
The teacher was a Black woman, in her 30s, born and raised in San Antonio, a high school graduate who apparently taught the classes at her home. For ten months of work, she earned a total of $600. During the Depression, the New Deal WPA provided a variety of assistance programs for Black families, including such classes (especially for women), food, day care and medical care.
Condition
Wear to spine, dampstaining and foxing, not affecting legibility.
