LARGE FEMALE CULT FIGURE LUBA
Very beautiful sculpture, powerful
She has most of the characteristics of Luba art, firmly planted on her legs, serene, hands on shoulders, scarifications
Shoulders are geometrically cut
The face is darker than the rest of the statue, a characteristic that is sometimes found among the oriental Luba and also among the Hemba
Presumably from a workshop in the Lukuga Area
Another particularity is the representation of the hairstyle, seen from the front, which gives the statue an almost solar aspect.
The Luba are a great people in eastern DRC.
Their caryatid seats, their cup holders, chiefs' sticks, arrow holders, adzes and ancestral statues are very famous and among the most valued objects in African Art.
