Description
"A History of the Middle Ages" by Joseph Dahmus, published by Barnes & Noble Books; First Edition, Eighth Printing, 1995.
Original dust jacket; hard boards, 1/4 blue cloth with gold lettering on spine, 6.1/2" x 9.1/2"; 408 pages including Index, very good / fine condition. See photos.
"Survey of the Middle Ages from the fall of the Roman Empire up to about 1500. A good survey, but it reminds me, as I am often reminded when reading books like this, that history is mostly the story of exceptional individuals. On that, at least, Ms. Rand and I are agreed." [private review]
"One thing I do find very respectable about this book is it discusses the affects both the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire and Islam had upon Western Europe during the Middle Ages. Too often, the period is thought to be very closed off and insulated from the rest of the world, when in fact the Eastern Empire and the Middle East had great affects on the culture and peoples at the time." [private review]
