Antique carved wooden sculpture of a Gabon Viper with horned snout and stylized colorful pattern. The Gaboon viper (Bitis gabonica), also called the Gaboon adder, is a viper species found in the rainforests and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. It is the largest member of the genus Bitis,and it has the longest fangs of any venomous snake – up to 2 inches and the highest venom yield of any snake. This sculpture measures 21 inches tall ( 22.5 inches tall on custom display stand.) Gabon, Africa. Provenance: Ex Prof. Gould Collection, New York.
